I was listening to a certain pastor preaching about "Prosperity". I listened at first, because it sounded like something I would be interested in. But his preaching turned from giving whole-hearted to giving "to receive". He started to talk about putting seeds into the ministry so that god would bless you. I began to wonder, "Since when did you HAVE to give money in order for god to bless you?"
He went on to say that we shouldn't be so concerned about paying a phone bill, because god will provide for you if you are willing to "sacrifice". Then I thought, "Isn't god already providing for me by giving me a job in order to pay my bills?"
Then I thought of the woman in the bible who had inherited her husband's debt. She went to a (pastor) and he told her to borrow some vessels from as many people as she could and bring them home. She was to take the little oil she had (that only filled up barely half of her own jar) and fill up all the rest of the jars. Miraculously, she was able to do so. She was to sell the oil, pay off her debt, and live on the rest.
Now, to my understanding, the lord blessed her without her having to give any "seeds", neither was she required to even give anything to the church. God used what she already had and made it more than enough. Then she was able to pay off the debt and live on the rest.
Our religious figures should focus more on teaching about how we should live a holy life and teach about faith, grace and salvation. Because in the end, we cannot buy our way into heaven. We would give all our money to walk into the pearly gates, but the one thing that's free we refuse to give: Our Soul.

I have to agree with you. Preach on! jk
ReplyDeleteI definately think that people concern themselves with money way to much. If we focus on having better lives as far as moral responsibility is concerned, everything else will fall into place.
ReplyDeleteI will agree that many preachers do speak much of money. Now their agenda I don't know because I am not there and that would be judging them and as you mention in another topic. We really should'nt do that, Therefore I won't.
ReplyDeleteWe are suppose to give a tenth of our earnings gross and a sacrificial offerring according to Milachi 3:10 I live by that and I never want for anything and my Pastor doesn't take our money we have to literally make him take it at times and sometimes he doesn't. And he is very blessed. Now as to the women in the bible it is in 1Kings 17 and she was blessed because of her obdience to the prophet of God, by giving to him the little she had God mulitplied that for life and she never wanted again. So yes sometimes we do have to stepout and believe God with the little we have and he in return will bless you beyond measure I guarantee.Always seek God in your given because we are not suppose to give everything away, but let God move you in your giving. Be blessed
